if there was a Republican that was a true conservative and could keep religion out of it like they're supposed to like the Constitution says keep religion and state separate. I would vote for him in a heartbeat because I believe in small government I believe in a fair tax rate I believe the right to protect yourself but I also believe in a lot of social rights and being a father some of those things Trump the other things. I believe in science and having a clean planet for my kids to live in this is important to me. this is why I started writing a letter with my views that I want to send out to Republicans and Democrats to show that some of us are more in the middle and they could do a better job representing all of us.

Our Nation was founded by Christians and they gave us freedom OF religion, not freedom from religion ! It is your choice to believe or not believe, not impose non belief on everyone because you don't like it.

Well said. I'm also socially liberal (pro choice, environment, gay marriage, yada yada) and fiscally conservative (small government).

Pick your poison: Democrat or Republican. Both of them advocate for big government and the Nanny State, just in different ways. The best thing, I think, is to probably vote libertarian.

Thats what I try to do when the choice is there. I also never said I just vote one way. I do this crazy thing where I look up the views and the way that person voted on in the past before I choose anyone.

My Dad, my Father in law, both were democrats, hunters, Christians, decent law abiding men, WW 2 Veterans. Right now, if they were here, i would bet both of them would chastise the oregon democratic party to no end. And, would be totally ashamed of what is going on within that party. And, without a doubt NEVER vote democrat again, they were men with morals, minds of their own, proud, but, humble, honorable decent law abiding men. It would literally make them sick to see this state turning like it is, turning on the people of the state. Sad, very, very sad. Those are good things, now try watching less MSNBC. Mix it up a bit, you claim to be moderate but come across as farrrrr left except for guns.
If you can't see a McCain, Romney, Lindsey Graham, the list goes on and on as moderates, then you are not paying attention.
Those "Republicans", despite the occasional verbal bone to the Evangelical crowd are as milk toast middle of the road as you can get. AKA RINO!
You basically want an Obama that is pro-gun. He doesn't exist and never will.

The big social issues are already taken care of and would go away if the left would get out of the way!

Show me any Republicans are true conservative anymore. the Republican Party has been taken over by religious zealots who are anti gay anti abortion and are controlled by the corporations just as bad as Democrats. unfortunately I don't fall on any side because I'm pro choice I don't give a s*** about who marries who and I'm an atheist but I also love shooting guns and owning guns I also understand that it's up to me to protect my family's life I can't wait 15 minutes for a police officer to show up.

Problem is you don't know what a true conservative is but even if you did you wouldn't vote for one. Seems your biggest hatred is religion, which conservative is forcing anyone to believe in a god? If you are going to be forced into a religion it will be from democrat diversity programs that brings it to this country.

Again , democrats are the ones pushing for gun control in oregon.

I used to vote for the individual too, then I realized it didn't matter. Party politics are so entrenched it is virtually impossible for any representative to vote against their own party.
Look at what happened at the Federal level. The Representatives who ran against Boehner for Speaker were punished with loss of committee assignments. If they still buck the system you can bet they won't get financial support from the party in the next election or will have a well funded opponent in the primary.

This is a gun forum. Most of us here believe guns are the most important political issue of this age. If you don't agree with that fine, don't expect us to not disagree with you. We also don't want to hear you whine about how you lost your right to own, buy, sell, and carry a gun because you voted for the jack wagons who took that right from you.

So if it's more important to you for Jack and John to have a bike lane to ride in to the courthouse and get married fine, own it. When your wife decides she is gay and wants to explore an alternative lifestyle but is afraid you'll shoot her don't come here and whine about the Sheriff cleaning out your gun safe, own it.

My grandmother tought me the importance of a old fashioned written letter. Its physical, it sits on there desk, it tells them you took the time, and enough of them is overwhelming because you can't just click delete. It humanizes you and the issue.

I totally would but it happened again! I took them all out to clean while I was crabbing and they all ended up in the bottom of the bay in a freak accident. I would totally comply to give up all my guns but what can a guy do? I already gave them to the angry man in the sea.
