An "assault weapon", is a made up term used to lump any weapon that the liberal leaning populace find frightening or offensive. It is used to generate fear in order to further the squashing of our individual rights.

Well the ATF has NO definition for them.

As for everyone else even they can not decide but here is one chart to help,

The other word gun owners AND dealers need to quit using it "high-cap" magazines. A 17rd Glock magazine is NOT "high-cap", it is the STANDARD magazine that that gun was designed to use. A 30rd AR magazine is a STANDARD magazine.

The original "Assault Rifle " term was coined in World War II to describe the G42/3 series of German Rifles. They used an intermediate-length round of 8mm. They were designed to shoot either semi or fully automatic, selectable by a switch. They were meant for close-in offensive and defensive use, not for long-range sniping. The AK-47 was copied from this design. The libs have co-opted this term to mean anything they want. Lots of people use the term "Assault Weapon". Just what the hell does that mean? You can assault anyone with any weapon.

Here is a video which has been linked before, I think it sums up Assault Weapons fairly nicely.

Aside from that, the people who want to ban them use physical external descriptions to define them. Most have demonstrate they have no idea what those features are actually for and no idea on the internals. It has been proven time and time again that many firearms which are called Assault Weapons are no different than non-Assault weapons except for cosmetic appearances.

Close but not quite. Sturmgewehr was the word used and it means "storm rifle" which in translation has become "assault rifle".
