A hunter in the Czech Republic suffered a strange encounter with a deer last Friday when the animal managed to abscond with a rifle that was slung over his shoulder.

I first heard a story like this in November 1960. I suspect variations are told every year in deer camps all over the U.S., probably beginning, "A friend of my cousin told him about this time when . . ."

That's why you should never let cervidae have access to alcohol. Technically it's considered undeerage drinking.
