We need a rational middle in this country, and sadly it seems that position is lacking.
For many on the right, we need to stop ignoring policing issues. There is too much reflexive defense of policing. There are around 10% of LEO's who should go, and another 85% that will turn their head and ignore the bad ones. Many of those complaining about policing have legitimate beefs, but man on the right ignore them.
The flip side is what we're seeing here. This dude ABSOLUTELY was going with suicide by cop and seeing if he could take any with him. Yet the BLM types have an issue with how this went down. They hurt their side by putting just as much passion behind the BAD cases as the ones where they have a legitimate grievance. There are plenty of examples without latching onto the bad ones like this.

How would it ever be proved it was in fact 'suicide by cop' unless the guy left a note this was his intention?

My point being I wouldn't want any/every person who simply pulls a gun on LEOs and gets dumped to be regarded as 'suicide by cop' for the sake of life insurance.

A jury would easily be allowed to infer that was the intent. Police stations and courthouses are gun free zones with teeth behind the restriction.

This is pretty clear cut. But to expand on a talking point, there is no longer a "middle". For example, we used to measure by small, medium or large. Now we add XS, S, M, L, XL all the way to 6X. Where is the medium? It's no longer in the middle. Technically, 2XL is the new medium. Look back from 1972 to present. The conservative position is basically the same or has moved slightly to the left, but how has agreeing to move the middle helped?
