Any chance for a dark theme? I am going back to 12 hour graveyards so on my weekends I'll be browsing at night. A dark theme would be much appreciated.

It'd be a while before we got to it, but it's certainly something I'll add to the list of items to look into :)

@DieselScout

I have a shortcut on my bookmarks bar - with the javascript code as the url
This will darken a page - but it is only temporary, when the page refreshes you loose it (which can be nice if some page gets hosed, just refresh)

You can change the colors to what you prefer - this one is black background, I use another for a grey background.

Code:
javascript:(function(){var newSS, styles='* { background: black ! important; color: lightgrey !important } :link, :link * { color: #034EFF !important } :visited, :visited * { color: #551A8B !important }'; if(document.createStyleSheet) { document.createStyleSheet("javascript:'"+styles+"'"); } else { newSS=document.createElement('link'); newSS.rel='stylesheet'; newSS.href='data:text/css,'+escape(styles); document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].appendChild(newSS); } })();

Not sure why I couldn't add the image while editing the above post.

I use it on a number of pages which are too brite at night.

A coworker has a background app which changes the monitor color based upon the time of day, that reduces eye strain at night, but then no pages are messed with, it is just the monitor settings.

I had used a code monkey script to set colors based upon the domain, but I found too many web pages updated too often to maintain the thing.

The recent update which went out last night did a bit in reducing the overall brightness, making it closer to V2 in appearance. Are you looking for something darker yet? If so, can you show me a couple examples?

@DieselScout what do you think of these samples?

This one is pretty dark - blue:

very dark -

This one has dark edges, which helps with overall feeling, light grey for most

Since it appears NWFA is based upon the XenForo package:
XenForo Dark themes:

Save your eyes. it helps a LOT.

The biggest problem is the amount of white/blue light coming from your monitor.

I have sensitive eyes and I use f.Lux to automatically remove the white/blues from my monitor when the sun sets and again it comes back when the sun is up. There are other benefits to this as well such as keeping my circadian cycle from being disrupted if I'm up late at night fixing the world's problems on NWFA or thread crapping everyone.

Give it a shot until there is a darker theme.

@Joe Link -
2 years on, any thoughts as to dark themes - or have i simply missed that setting?

I appreciate you reminding me about this. To be honest, no progress. It's still on my list but I haven't had the time to finish tasks on the light theme, and the dark theme is behind that. Due to the heavy modification of our site and theme here development is a lot more difficult than simply installing a pre-packaged XenForo theme. One of our goals when we migrate to XenForo 2 will keeping custom modifications to a minimum, so it's there's a much better shot at a dark theme after that :)

If it makes you feel any better I am back to days and completely forgot about it.
