Saw that on TV and it was really good. I think the key thing here is that kids learn accountability to someone other than themselves. Hopefully, later on they will hold themselves accountable for what they do.

Why haven't the cops in the schools worked?

And it's NOT like I have or had much faith in that program either.

Little things like :

A cheerful greeting...
Letting the kid know that you will actually listen to what they have to say....
Following through with something that you said you would do with a student....
Being able to say : "I'm sorry" to a student....

All go a long way with building a rapport with students...
There are times in my job at school where I feel like I am "Dad" to 400 odd students...:D
