I think he means "don't surf internet porn sites with a Company (employer-owned that will be directly connected to a network with critical data/control system information and connections) laptop."

And I have never worked at any organization, including one of the largest and oldest corps in the world, where they ever paid more than lip service to that end. Everybody always had almost total access to the internet except for blocking a few sites from the corporate network. Eventually Daimler forced the VPN to be used when the laptop was used outside the corporate network (e.g., when working at home), but we all learned pretty quickly how to disable the VPN, and how to setup the hosts config so we could surf the 'net without the VPN while still using the VPN for corporate access.

Could you be more specific? I know you don't mean don't remote into work from your company laptop, but what do you mean?
Read post #63

The equipment used for most work on these control systems is proprietary. Yes it can be connected to the internet, but those that have been issued that level of equipment live by different rules. My black travel bag equipment went back to either IT or a metrology lab at least twice a year. Had to pee in the jar at least once a month to get through the customer's front gate. Not quite on topic, but airports were fun. Lots of strange looks from TSA & questions about the electronics. Foreign airports took security to higher levels. Forgot to mention my electric shaver and was held in limbo for a short time.

Someone else has those problems now.

One thing that I have not seen is an analysis that addresses the concentration of business in the US. The government has allowed this concentration by redefining the terms of "monopoly" to the point that it allows a single company to control critical sectors of our economy.

From a strategic defense standpoint, no single pipeline should have carried the entire flow of fuel to such a large area. Notwithstanding the lack of competition, having only one pipeline allows one accident or attack to cut off fuel to a large geographic area. This should have never been allowed.

I don't know when the antitrust regulators went off the tracks, but I had first hand experience with this during the Clinton Administration. At that time, the FTC contact I had explained that companies were allowed to combine into monopolies as long as the consumer did not pay higher prices. As it turned out, they did not follow up on this, and within a few years, the consumers of this product were paying considerably higher prices!

Anyway, when dealing with strategic (economic, as well as military) assets, it is foolish to put all your eggs in one basket. (insert disgusted smiley here)
How old is the Colonial Pipeline????? A quick search on the web, for what that is worth.............bout 60 years. Old infrastructure! Much older than today's DCS, PLC's, etc. Recent events: Nine Eleven, computers, hackers have made life interesting.

Enjoy................

My understanding is that it really picked up steam w/ the Clintons but that no other uniparty president or legislature slowed it down. Can't really blame along party lines on this one I think.

The new administration is trying to act very concerned about getting the pipeline up and running and moving heaven and earth to reduce regs so trucks can move more fuel, etc.

Why isn't anybody bringing up the fact that he shutdown the building of a pipeline and stopped issuing leases on public lands as soon as he got to the white house.
