Any of you vets out there ever have a non-vet tell you 'you aren't a real vet if you have never served in a combat zone/conflict' etc.? I have from a few over the years and recently yesterday from a CONSERVATIVE co-worker and it kind of burns my butt. He actually had to tell me he researched it on the internet to prove to himself a vet is a successfully discharged member with a DD 214 regardless of where he/she served - which I already told him but he did not seem to believe me.

That "opinion" is TOTAL BS! Every clerk, mechanic, cook, deck swabber, cannon cocker, sanitation specialist, armorer, computer analyst, etc. regardless of gender, rank or branch of service has the same primary MOS.... RIFLEMAN. o_O

EVERY service member writes and signs a blank check to our country in the amount of, "up to & including my life".

And NO, I have not had that experience proffered to me, but if you saw me in person you'd understand why. ;)

As a non vet I ain't sayin shnit to someone who has served about what they are or aren't. That's between all yalls.
I used to hear these nam vets give each other crap about being in country and one was stationed at some resort in Thailand.
Like I said that's your argument not a non vets place to say anything

I have never had any one say any thing to me personally, BUT I get ton's O Crap for serving in the A.F. Mostly because they don't understand the A.F. preforms a great many missions AT GREAT PERSONAL RISK, including my M.O.S. as a P.J!!! It doesn't really bother me, but I know many who are bothered by it! US A.F. guys and galls are used to it! But Still........................

If you serve in the military , you are doing a thankless job with damn little pay and chances are doing it at hours and a place that no one else really wants to be doing it at.
Regardless of what branch or where you serve , whether you have seen combat or not , if you served you are indeed a veteran!

Again, that's for other branches to give you guff about not us non vets

RVTECH,

Don't mean nothin', man. Pass him off. He may be suffering some sort of guilt complex. (?)
You know who you are. We know who you are

"A veteran is someone who, at one point in their life wrote a blank check made payable to The United States of America, for an amount up to and including their life."

Both my grandfathers, my dad, uncle and I are all Vets. I wish my son a happy Veteran's Day every year, perhaps a bit prematurely because he's still serving.

I couldn't be more proud of him.

When I raised my right hand and said "so help me God." I gave the government a blank check on my life. Being immediate post-Vietnam/pre Grenada, I never had to serve in combat but my skills with a field kitchen were put to use in constant training. I'm not a combat Vet but I'm still a Vet. Nothing can take that away.

Part of the problem is this person tells me he was in ROTC but because he was not 20/20 vision he could not fly helicopters so withdrew his enlistment . Funny but I never considered the military to be a selfish, self-serving Endeavor only to satisfy your wants.

Ordinarily, these would have been beers, but we did what we could...
Me,right front.-NAS NOLA,1997.
On an unrelated note, who knew a guy could get handsomer with age??:p

Speaking only for myself If it wasn't for all those who served in support units or roles , I could not have fought as well as I did when deployed.
So Thank You!

And to those who served but did not see combat , again speaking only for myself , you owe no explanation or reasoning to me about how or where you served.
Thank you as well.

That opinion is 100% B.S. My FIL served during Korea, stateside, at a desk job under a General. I consider him no less having served than those that were on the lines. Service is service in my opinion. And just as every job is different, there are different types of service in the military. All deserve our respect.

Everyone who serves, sacrifices.

Shame on that co-worker for having that POV.

Discharged from the Army with 0 active days on an Honorable Medical - MOS was combat engineer.

Never considered myself a vet, do not qualify for vet services but man I wish I could have blown some stuff up:D.

I agree, every single person regardless of rank, branch or MOS deserves our respect.

You missed out, blowing sheite up IS pretty cool... and I'm not talking about abusing tannerite, either! :D
