Well, a little off topic. The guy in this scenario was a friendly. But people who would do us ill have the same right to firearm ownership as we do so long as they can pass a background check. It scares me to think of the anarchists running around in Seattle, et al, exercising this right.

Libertarians are about as close as it gets to political anarchists in this age... self proclaimed anarchists are more akin to socialists or practice noninvolvement. In any case, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

FYI... Libertarian Party platform during the 2016 election campaign

Anarchy is defined as the radical abolition of the state, which anarchists hold to be undesirable, unnecessary and harmful. I didn't see much in the above link about promoting anarchy, particularly when one considers his stated position on gun control (or more precisely, gun rights). From the above-cited passage:

"Johnson opposes federal and state gun control legislation, saying: "I'm a firm believer in the Second Amendment and so I would not have signed legislation banning assault weapons or automatic weapons."[167] Johnson says that the Second Amendment "was designed to protect us against a government that could be very intrusive. And in this country, we have a growing police state - if people can own assault rifles or automatic rifles, I think leads to a more civil government."[167] Johnson would, however, limit weapons such as rocket launchers.[167] Johnson believes that allowing concealed carrying of guns reduces crime and gun violence.[167][168]"

That was the stated position of the Libertarian Party candidate in the 2016 election. I would have thought that many members of this board would have found that position somewhat refreshing...

I'd rather there not be a background check to exercise a right. Freedom is scary, just like in real life...

I'd rather people be scared and free than feel safe as a slave.

I shoot public lands all the time as that's my only option. "my spot" is used by many and I sometimes have to use the next best spots in the area. Bummer but what the heck in these times of political unrest we're lucky to be shooting anywhere. I've met some really creepy people up there and I watch my back whenever I'm alone. (which is most of the time) Lots of dopers use it as a party spot on weekend nights so it's trashed most of the time with beer bottles and nails from burning pallets to keep warm while they party, drink and smoke dope.

believe me, it was refreshing. sucks that he had no chance to win though.

"self proclaimed anarchists are more akin to socialists or practice noninvolvement."

Or they are anarcho-capitalists, like me. :)

Just to pick a nit, anarchists aren't actually against government or societal rules. The latter can be had in a perfectly anarchist society; it's just that all must explicitly agree to them, rather than having them imposed. And anarchists don't (or shouldn't) mind government for those others who want government; they just want the boot off their own neck.

Those guys in Seattle probably are more communist than anarchist, although the Ministry of Propaganda studiously avoids calling them that.
