I have been meaning to ask this for a bit now. With the "mark your buoy" law now, does it mean that you can only have 3 pots in the water with your name on them, or can all of them be marked with one name so long as you do not have more than 3 / person?

Every buoy must be marked, doesn't matter who owns the traps/rings, along as there's only three traps/rings per licensed person.

Not sure if I did it right, but I had 3 in the boat with 6 pots, all buoys with my info. We didn't get checked.

The whole idea of putting the ID on the traps is supposedly a way for the ODFW to track lost gear and how it impacts marine wildlife, but after a couple of years of study, there will be a fine levied on the owner of lost crabbing gear.

In WA, there is a reporting system online where if you immediately report lost gear, you're in the clear.

Maybe OR will do the same.

My thoughts are that you won't hear a peep out of the ODFW in regards to a method of avoidance of fines levied to an owner of lost traps until you receive a fine in the mail.
