Perhaps, but like Ron basically said the police aren't going to know this. They will be more interested in clearing the case. The gun will go to the property room and an attempt will be made to contact the victim of the crime, unless the gun has been seized for evidence.

The police will not be concerning themselves over what is a now essentially a civil matter between the victim and his insurance company.

My two cents anyway. :)
 
Well, others here have stated that technically the gun would no longer legally belong to you.

Does the insurance company state that? I'm guessing they understand the likelihood of the gun ever being found and don't care. It isn't a thousands of dollar payout for a car.
Now if it was a huge collection or an expensive collector gun,they may look into it.But unless you tell them they would never know
And there is no registration on the gun,yet
