@bolus havent seen you post for awhile. How's the situation over there?

not as bad as other places. we have had a linear increase in cases instead of exponential. Testing is still ridiculously inadequate with some places taking 14 days to get results. We still only test sick patients.

The governor is still an idiot. The lieutenant gov is an ER doc, He spoke out that the state is still not doing enough so the governor got butthurt took him completely off any work on Covid. He got a huge backlash and said the most idiotic thing as an excuse. He said that because of social distancing the lieut gov would not fit in the conference room and that's what he meant. He has been rated 4th worst governor in the country for the response.

Tourists are still coming. They have a 14 day quarantine on visitors which apparently is completely voluntary. They reported 2 homeless people and a family of 4 with no hotel reservations just arrived. People arriving from Japan are reporting zero interaction at the airport other than "are you from china?"

From the medical side we are starting to hear about national shortages of meds (like albuterol, the basic asthma treatment). One more reason not to china for everything. Oh, and they just reported a ton of state employees are idle with nothing to do except get paid.

True. Thank Bill Clinton and successive "free" trade deals.

I have no issue with free trade between economies which are at parity with each other, but in a world where capital is instantaneously mobile, and vast disparities exist in the cost of living (and thus wages) -- these free trade deals are real killers, of jobs and as we see now, people.

As for electronics, the short term gains companies made by offshoring manufacturing and relying on intellectual property laws were just brain dead. Over time they've transferred the know-how to such an extent, that China won't need to infringe any patents -- it'll just do the engineering there as well as manufacturing. What will we have then? House flipping? Financial services? Burger king? The fact is, America is looking like the UK about 1900 while China is ascendant. Of course that doesn't matter to global capital -- that thinnest sliver of the elite are already borderless. We can turn things around though I suspect we won't. The cheap stuff from China is consumerist heroin -- kicking that habit would be hell, even if it would save us.

I ordered (2) boxes of standard surgical mask back in November. We use them for lawn mowing and while riding our SidebySide since its always so dusty. I got an email for the seller the other day stating:
