Considering an SKS...

Lots of great advice here, thanks everyone. I have an AK, so it's not an issue hoping one performs like the other, whatever. An sks that takes AK mags would be really cool.

As for the buying, also good advice, since you potentially stand to lose whatever you buy and what you paid for it. "I trusted the seller" is not an argument you want to bank on.

My eyes are open, I'll get my hands on one of these pretty soon.

I really hate threads like this. I don't own an SKS. Now I want one (or two). I now feel guilty because I don't have one. Before this thread came along I was happy. Guess I'll watch for someone who is selling a decent one. I hate it!

There are ALWAYS SKS in pawnshops; they are always over-priced in pawnshops too! Just be polite and make a ridiculous offer, week after week.............................elsullo

For me, the SKS is a plinking rifle to use when you want more power than a .22lr.

You will have more fun with a 10/22. (and cheaper ammo)

I don't have one, but I think it would be fun from the historical side of things. Kinda like my Mosin; not state of the art, but I really enjoy putting a some rounds through a rifle that was used in WWII.
