CONGRESSIONAL STUDY: MURDER RATE PLUMMETS AS GUN OWNERSHIP SOARS

A Congressional Research Service (CRS) report shows that while gun ownership climbed from
192 million firearms in 1994 to 310 million firearms in 2009, crime fell—and fell sharply.
According to the report, the "firearm-related murder and non-negligent homicide" rate
was 6.6 per 100,000 Americans in 1993. Following the exponential growth in the number
of guns, that rate fell to 3.6 per 100,000 in 2000.

That cannot happen just ask a liberal gun grabber.

I don't think gun grabbers are actually disputing the crime trends we're observing. Their main argument is that we have the most firearms related deaths per capita among developed countries.

Also we need to remember that until this point no study has been able to prove that increase in gun ownership actually decreases crime. The only thing
we know for certain is that increase in gun ownership doesn't increase crime.

There was another interesting story related to gun ownership vs crime from Iceland today.

Police in Iceland killed a person for the first time in the nation's history after they responded to shots fired at officers on Monday.

Iceland, with a population of around 320,000, has a low crime rate and gun violence is extremely rare.

And a couple more numbers to add. There are approximately 90 thousand privately owned firearms in the country (almost 1 per 3 citizens), and there are 6 jails that housed 366 convicts in 2011.
