California does not recognize your Oregon CHL. You can bring your gun with you as long as it is not banned by name (ex. Mac 10/11, TEC 9) or feature (ex. threaded barrel) in CA, you can not bring your mags over 10 rounds unless they are dissembled. You will have to transport it in a locked container, you can have your 10 round mags loaded but they need to be removed from the gun.

No need to worry about their approved/safe handgun list as you are not importing it into the state.

Traveling with Firearms in California | State of California - Department of Justice - Kamala D. Harris Attorney General

I use to think California would be a great state to live in. My first inkling that it would be a horrible state to live in was when I was into Japanese sports cars, and while they do have a lot of those in California, the police are nazi's (I prefer the term Storm Troopers to describe police that are just missing black boots, black uniforms and double lightning bolts on the collar), as well as their fines, when it comes to meeting emission standards. In some cases you'd be better off being caught drunk behind the wheel than pay the fine for having a Turbocharger with an external wastegate and no catalytic converter on your car.

I know due to their massive budget shortfalls, traffic fines for things as minor as running a stop sign can easily run you $400.

Then there is the guns issue, I for one like a lot of firepower, and that involves higher capacity magazines that carry more than 10 rounds. I guess if I liked revolvers and bolt-action rifles it wouldn't be an issue, but since I like semi-automatics, its a huge issue if you are legally limited to only 10 rounds.

I wouldn't mind visiting the Peoples Republik of Kalifornia, but I would never want to live there.

One other thing, I may lean left but I really don't like Senator Feinstein due to her massive hypocrisy on guns. Its well known ever since Harvey Milk was killed, she carries a .357 magnum on her but is very anti-gun. When San Francisco residents decided they were going to make a statue from melted down guns, she bought a cheap little pistol to donate, and held onto her .357 magnum which she carries every day.

edit: I think at one point or another, everyone who lived in California in the 60's and 70's went to Jim Jones Dictarorship/Socialist/Communist Peoples Temple at one time or another, hence the screwy laws that their legislators pass. Look them up if you want to see brainwashing on a large scale, and the Peoples Temple, without surprise, originated in San Francisco.

I lived literally on the beach in Santa Barbara in 1981 in a VW van for a year. Woke up to bikinis on the beach every morning. Then I camped out at every S.Cal beach that was mentioned in a Beach Boys song.

Back then you had the freedom to travel and really live without ordinances/cops/rules being shoved in your face 24/7. Cops weren't militarized drones ready to push you back into the herd. They were people.

Youth today living in this surveillance state probably don't have a clue as to how 'unfree' they really are to do anything in this 'free' country of ours. We have never really been free (just an illusion of freedom; voting; etc), but in 30 years we have really fallen into the category of a controlled police state. All made possible via deception and an extremely fearful and gullible populace.

In the not too distant future, especially in states like California, you will be nothing but a numbered lemming. If you try to be different, think for yourself, or get out of line you will be sent to a re-education camp or worse. If the USA as a sovereign nation even exists 20-30 years from now, which is highly unlikely as we are a bankrupted nation already, I wouldn't want to be here. Luckily, as a geezer, I won't have to be.

Part of the loss of freedoms is the sheer number of people now. Pretty much the entire silicon valley used to be orchards... Now it's a sea of people, houses, businesses & roads.
