The Legal means to becoming a U.S. Citizen are far more repressive then needed! The vetting process can be handled in under 2 years once the papers are submitted, and the test could be handled at any Fed courthouse, BUT NO, We had to go through 9 years+ of constant Krap, get treated like krap, and then had to make an appointment a YEAR in advance to drive all the frickin way to San Francisco to finalize every thing so my lovely bride could become a honest tax paying U.S. Citizen! Stomper is correct, the Consulate makes you feel all nasty, and they treat you like some child molester! I feel all nasty just posting this! I hired a really good Lawyer to handle all the papers and navigate the many hurdles, and it was still a nightmare, especially in the beginning as we were trying to figure it all out! Then there were all the different Visa's that were required, and "Up Grade Status" at each step, all requiring a extensive check, and a large fee! Friggin KRAP if you was to ask me!

Is this a recent change to immigration? My wife of 25 years became a citizen about 5-7 years ago, and the process was a little confusing, but ultimately not really that hard. We sent some paperwork in, went to some classes and interviews and she was sworn in as a citizen downtown PDX. I am honestly curious if the process has been changed to such an extreme, or if it was easy because of the 20+ years of marriage to a US borne citizen.

I think it varies with different situations, such as where they come from, the system in that country, the status of relations with that country, and many other issues or reasons they choose!
Mine, we had to first go to the Ukrainian Consulate IN Poltava Ukraine and fill out all the papers and do the interview and vetting, then once she was approved there ( a two week process and a fee), she was issued her Marriage Visa ( as apposed to a work visa, or student visa) and then began the waiting once we were married. once she was "eligible" to begin the process, we then had the wait! Once we had passed the waiting period, we made the appointment 1 year in advance ( with very strict time line) and began the citizenship process! After the vetting, and the test, she was sworn in like every one else! We were only given 4 choices of where we could go for the citizenship process, N.Y.City, San Fran, Seattle, Or Boston! It had to be done at one of those only, no others! As we were living in Colorado, San Fran was the closest to us, so we had to take two weeks vacation and make the trip, leaving enough time for them to sort the papers and clear up any issues! Total cost from start to finish was $5500, well worth it, but Damn, needlessly long and complicated

They keep trying.............

Grievance 1 against California to be Declared January 23, 2018
New California declares 'independence' from California in bid to become 51st state

They need to add a really strong gun rights statement to their Constitution.

I wish them luck and really hope they succeed/secede, but I don't think that it will happen.

That is never going to happen. It would produce a realitivley reliable conservitive state to add to the federal mix. The liberal states would do everything possible to see that it never comes to be. It would cause the same controversy as trying to bring in slave or free states did before the civil war.

Or during the war, ie West Virginia. Interestingly enough West Virginia had a similar disparity of representation as do those calling for New California...

Oh yes I know. Not what I hoped for either.

Not likely, but the exodus of Freedom loving Californians can happen.... I have life long cousins from San Diego. The stereotypical demagogue of Southern California. One of my female cousins pulled up stakes, moved to Alaska, and has become as Freedom Loving as any life long resident of Alaska or Northern Idaho.

I don't know, numbers wise, how many "Lovers of Freedom" would have to leave simultaneously, to turn the tide. It's not likely gonna happen. Small numbers leave for elsewhere, but they are overwhelmed with the status-quo political arena of the place they've moved to. I keep hoping for a 51st state.

Well, I'm not sure about any of that either, but there's no harm in dreaming right? And if we're really good dreamers, the left will protect us and take care of us. ;-)

Well you can understand how California thinks as they consider San Francisco, northern California. It's only half way up the state. They don't want to be known as central Ca, because that would tie them in with Modesto, so who could really blame them.

Honestly, an hour north of San Francisco is more southern Oregon than any ties to California. Excluding areas near Sacramento.

1/2 way up the state is near Madera. There is a palm tree planted next to a spruce in the median of US99 marking the spot. Quite a way south of the 37.8% latitude of San Francisco. If you start the state at LA you might be correct but San Ysidro is a long way south of that.

This is up to the feds Immigration is a federal government law the president and the department of Homeland security has say on who gets in the country ALL THESE MAYORS AND GOVERNOR'S THAT SAY THEY HAVE SANCTUARY CITYS IR STATES ARE BREAKING FEDERAL LAW AND SHOULD BE ARRESTED AND AS FAR AS IM CONCERNED HUNG FOR TREASON
But when it was Arpaio doing it, it was illegal and racist. When they do it it's states rights.

States rights only apply where federal law does not. If it's granted to the federal government it isn't reserved to the states.

The hardest part was enduring the BUBBLEGUMMEND attitude of the Consulate employees... you'da thought I was a child molester (or something) by the way they treated me and my family, but they sure didn't have any problem sucking up our money as soon as my wallet opened up. o_O

They just saw your bride and it was understandable that they thought you were robbing the Aussie cradle. You old American goat...

Been there exactly the same position.

Well, I bought into the hype hook, line and sinker- I bought a reloader, supplies, all that gear to reload, and Jan.1 rolled around, and you could still buy ammo in Kommiefornia over the counter. Sure, some retailers like Wal-Mart had to hold off selling ammo for a few days while the DOJ pulled it's $h!t together and figured out what it could and couldn't do, but once their lawyers threatened to hit them with a class-action suit the DOJ issued the necessary permits and the big chains were selling ammo just like before, with no added Background check charges. Supposedly the BGC for ammo, and the added fees will take effect by 7/1/18, but the gun rights groups here are preparing their counter attack and most likely the DOJ and Sacramento's plan to limit ammo sales will fall apart like the 30-round mag ban and confiscation. Sacramento did stop online ammo sales into the state, but will that stop anyone who wants or needs ammo from crossing state lines and getting what they need? NO. Kommiefornia also DOES NOT have the additional resources required to actually check vehicles coming back into the state for additional ammo, so that's really not gonna happen either.

As far as the ever-shrinking CA compliant pistol list, I'm not worried about it- our plans to move back to Oregon are taking shape, and we should be moving back hopefully before 2020. It seems a long way off, but I'm looking forward to NOT paying for illegal immigrants anymore, paying ever-increasing taxes for Jerry Brown's mistakes, and living in a state that puts illegals first ahead of citizens and veterans. I just hope in the meantime Oregonians start standing up to Brown's socialist laws that really are just part of her personal agenda to turn Oregon fully Democratic- DON'T LET IT HAPPEN!

Did Kalifornia regulate ammunition components also. Bullets, brass, powder, primers etc etc.....?
My FFL seems to think so, but I recently ordered bullets online and got them. I will be reloading .223 and .308 this year and I go up 3-4x a year, so I'm not too concerned about whatever unconstitutional laws Kommiefornia makes. I will have PLENTY of ammo.

I stopped in my "reloading" store in SoCal during my last visit. It does not appear anything component wise is regulated, only loaded ammo. All other sales are business as usual. (I picked up some vintage, new items i.e. 40 year old brand new boxes of bullets). But as the state continues to "boil the frog" by taking handguns off the approved list, regulating ammo, mag capacity, evil assault rifles...components are only a matter of time.
