I have a Colt model 357 6 inch octagon barrel revolver. I have read up on the history of the model 357 but have not seen anything on an octagon barrel. If anyone has any information on this pistol, please reply. Serial number 1104

What markings are on the barrel....?
As a general rule , Colt marked barrels are marked "Colt"...and if your barrel does not have a Colt marking...
I would guess that its an after market barrel.

All it says on the barrel is 357 M

Hmmm....well my best guess here is that it is a aftermarket barrel

With that said...its a guess...without seeing the revolver in question.

Octogan barrels on common revolvers like S&W & Colt, are not production, but aftermarket.
It could still be quality. Try firing some 148 grain mid-range wad cutters & examine their accuracy.

I had a Colt revolver marked just "Colt .357 mag" once. I bought it used in the 70s. The gun dealer I bought it from said that's what Colt called their first .357s, before they started with the snake-name models. Mine had a round barrel and was Parkerized.
