"While four people have died from the plague since 1934, the last four cases - one in 1995, two in 2010 and one in 2011 - all survived, according to the Oregonian. While a plague vaccine exists, it is no longer sold in the U.S. Read more: Oregon man diagnosed with "black death" plague"

Plague may not be one of our biggest worries right now, but being this is the survival and preparedness section it's a good reminder what we would have to look forward to during a long lasting event of societal unrest or natural disasters.

Modern antibiotics may not be readily available. There will also be a large increase in vermin and rats in any and all populated areas, probably most anywhere large groups of people or camps are set up. I would not expect many untrained refugee types to be creating healthy sewage systems at camps. Feces and waste management will be a huge survival issue for any kind of group and making sure vermin and insects don't become carriers will be the difference between life and death. Easy to not take a lot of problems we take for granted serious, but many simply solved issues will become big ones during a survival situation.

Meanwhile…a couple million people pouring over the southern border with TB, malaria, various tropical diseases, parasites etc… all unchecked and untreated. All being released into the general population to spread their diseases.
And all will be blamed on a mechanic named Harold that voted for Trump in Utah 'cuz he didn't want to get vaccinated for covid

So preposterous but probably true...

Meh
Bubonic plague pops up now and again
Its endemic in fleas on rodents like rats, squirrels and chipmunks. When they come close to people, the occasional flea jumps on and then you have a case of the plague, which can be fatal. Other nasty bugs are waiting oN vermin as well. Hanta virus, for example, shows up in the southwest every few years

Great, so you mean to tell me all those cute little fur balls we have been feeding and watering are going to give us the plague, lyme disease, hantavirus or all three? At least they won't give us covid. I need to start attracting big snakes instead.
