Hello I was wondering if this is a kit gun
I acquired it used, so I can't for certain say. The bluing and stock inletting indicates it is not likely a kit gun.
the lyman great plains is not a kit gun. If your looking for good BP gun the Great Plains has a great rep as a great gun.
Respectfully, Sir; the Lyman Great Plains Rifle CAN be ordered in kit form.
It is missing the side plates at least the left one.
Respectfully gun runner; it is NOT missing a side plate. You can confirm this for yourself by looking online at the Track of the Wolf catalog for this particular rifle. In this catalog they give 6 different views of the rifle with very clear pictures.
It is not missing anything.
Here is links to what it is,
Rifle: Track of the Wolf - Lyman Great Plains Rifle, .50 caliber, 1 in 60" twist for round ball, right hand, percussion, new, unfired
Rifle Kit: Track of the Wolf - Lyman Great Plains Rifle Kit, .50 caliber, right hand, percussion, new, unfired
Front Sight: Dixie Gun Works muzzleloading, blackpowder and rare antique gun supplies.
Rear Sight: Dixie Gun Works muzzleloading, blackpowder and rare antique gun supplies.
It does not have the case hardened colored side plate and hammer, like comes on the new rifles or kits.
My apologies you are right.
Still available and lowered price.

Should sell at that price, very good deal on a very good rifle.
Is this rifle still available?
Still for sale
I shot BP in competition for 15 years And I shot against a lot of these older Lyman Great Plains rifles and with a round ball they were very competitive on the trail walks. A very good solid rifle. And the seller here is asking a VERY fair price.
