It's safe to shot with pistol ammo, problem is there is a lot of 7.62X25 machine gun ammo floating around and it well break the bolt stop. That Wolf spring kit should help the feeding issues. Fun to disassemble, only one screw in the entire gun, the grip screw. I've put hundreds of rounds through this 1916 war time commercial C96.
I really hope you are using 7.63Mauser and not 7.62Tokarev
