This is a classic! An 1873 Springfield Trapdoor. This rifle has been sporterized sometime in the distant past but retains the original barrel length, which measures just shy of 33"! A major plus when it comes to long range shooting. This rifle is extremely accurate, plenty of bite left in the rifling and I have never had any issues with it. I have shot standard commercial loads through her plenty of times without issue and she can shoot smokeless or black powder loads with ease. Serial number dates the manufacture to around 1879.
I am looking to sell or more ideally, trade. I am looking for lever action rifles no newer than 1940. Preferably I am looking for a 1930s era Savage 99 in good working condition but would be interested to see what other rifles might be out there. Please nothing in a small caliber or next to impossible to get ammo for. I am looking for something suitable for deer or elk.
The value of my Springfield in it's current condition and configuration in todays market is around $500-$600, give or take. The fact that this one never had the barrel shortened is a big plus as it could easily be put back to original condition with a simple stock switch, which would easily double the value of it.
I might be willing to throw in a few bucks to make up the difference for the right rifle. Again, nothing newer than 1940 in manufacture if at all possible.
