I was looking over a site that I've enjoyed over the years, the Civil Defense Museum, and on their Seattle Civil Defense Rescue Service Vehicles page, one of the items listed is a "Life gun kit (Remington or equal)".

I emailed my father-in-law, who drove one of those in the late 1960s in Oregon, and he said it didn't ring a bell an that the only gun (or gun-like devices) they had in the rig was:

  • 10 gauge Mark IV flare pistol. CD-issued.
  • A line-throwing gun. CD-issued.
  • Two, Remington pump-action shotguns in 12-gauge. Those were issued from the sheriff's department, not Civil Defense. He said they were not given ammunition, but that it would be provided "if the Sheriff felt that we might need it".
Anyway, I am just curious if anyone knows what a "Life gun kit (Remington or equal)" is. Thanks. :)
