We are likely to see more Inititive Petitions around gun control in the future. The current signature requirements are as follows.
This seems like too low of a bar to reach for a State with 4 million residents. Would you vote to approve raising the requirements to 24% for Constitutional Initiatives and 18% for Statutory Initiatives? This would triple the number of signatures required to get Intitives on the ballot. That would help assure that only widely popular intitiives would be put on the ballot for a vote.
- For a constitutional initiative, valid signatures totaling at least 8% of the total votes cast for governor at the last election is required.
- For a statutory initiative, valid signatures totaling at least 6% of the total votes cast for governor at the last election is required.
