How difficult is it for a novice to switch out a barrel on the Ruger number ? Not sure how one holds a barrel to unscrew it?
    Thanks for any input.

Yes it is difficult for a novice, it is more than unscrewing it and putting another one back, for starters you secure the barrel and turn the receiver with a specialized wrench.....there is headspace and other things to worry about

See if Ruger can do it (unlikely), trade into a different caliber, or let the barrel manufacturer do it for you.
