HAHAHAHA!!! I love Detroits, too. They can be a handful in a short wheel base rig, especially if it has a bit of play in the steering. However, having one in my 69 Bronco let me continue to commute with it while I searched for those hard to come by axles. These days, we just buy new, but i the mid 80's there wasn't any new axle available...
When given the choice, I will always put a Detroit Locker in the back of my truck and street cars. I don't recommend them to many people, though, because a lot of people do not like their characteristics. Me? I like sh!t to work. Always.
I also put a LockRite Locker in the front, with selectable hubs it was unstoppable off road. My son has it now and he loves it.

I hear you my man! I put a Detroit TruTrac in my 2007 Titan.....wild ride in slippery conditions with all that V8 torque! Much better off-road though.

On my new Titan, I got the Pro-4x which has an electric actuated Dana locker OEM. No more inadvertent sideways action for me
But I bet you got very proficient at getting out of a slide :)

I have had limited slip/lockers in almost everything I own since the seventies. A 4x4 pickup without a limited slip / locker in at least the rear is just a turd looking for someplace to get stuck

There are pros and cons to both ways of doing it, locked or not. I'll take the cons of being locked. It's the way I prefer if I have to make a choice. But an E-Locker or an Air Locker can give you the option of changing between the two at the push of a button. I'm too cheap to invest in one of those.

ARB Air Lockers were/are very popular operated using an onboard ARB air compressor (I have one, I rate it highly) and I did consider getting an Air Locker. But if I was to do it all again it would be an E-Locker in the back and the LockRite in the front.

Back in 1986 I bought a similar '77 Corona from illinois with a frozen engine. $150.00 for the car, $37.00 for towing home. $325.00 for a surplus engine, coolant, oil plugs, change ATF, drop the gas tank and steam clean the inside.. She ran and we took her to Vegas that night. When your young especially at that time your $15.00 of back and forth gas goes along way! 💥 💣 :s0140:

3 of my 4 cars. The green one has a Torsen diff, the other two have spools. The white one does get driven on the street with slicks and the spool, just never when it's wet out!

Yep remove the carb and roll a Ford under it, presto back to a truck..........
Hey man! I've got an '84 GMC C1500 that I've had since new and it's been a fine truck. All original, except had a GM crate motor put in it 12 years ago. 180,000 on the odometer.

I've not had much goat to get at my age anymore. Not concerning cars for SURE! I feel that all vehicles had there good and bad points. Now days? Not so sure. This 2024 Honda HRV we got first of the year has way too much useless-to-me stuff. And I fear the there will be trouble down the road. The 2005 CR-V we drove to 137,000 with not ONE issue had nothing useless on it. We've got the latest Honda recall on this new car already, with the steering box spring they messed up at the factory.
