The jump seats in the back of those things were how it got around the Chicken Tax and only had to have a 2.5% passenger car tax on import into the US

That Chicken Tax is also why I think the first generation Ford Transits kept their seats and interior when shipped into the US, only to have them ripped out and turned back into cargo vans by Ford

When I bought it and brought it home...

Broke the throttle cable on the way to work in the morning.
I think they sent the right size truck this time...


Broke the clutch cable a year later on the way home from that job.
This one was a better size truck.


After using it as a work commuter for many years and 80k miles...


Now my son owns it and drives it everywhere.
This was a couple years ago at PIR when a bunch of VW's went out for fun.
His little 1600 single port ran a best of 20.949 @ 61.18 MPH.
Freeway speed racing at its finest!

I also drove this rad little ragtop '67 for a year.
It had its own proclivities that I worked out as we enjoyed each others time together.

The coil died one day randomly in Tualatin...

Love break deck flat bed trucks.


This time at the Wilsonville Costco, the alternator died and fried several items with a voltage spike.


Waiting for tow trucks sucks big time.
But all of these photos were taken over the last 20 years, so it's not like they are breaking down every week.
They have been quite dependable for us.

This is my next project to bring back to the road soon.
Just hafta build the engine for it and they are not cheap.
It is a 1970 VW Squareback with a home made widebody set up on it.
The fender flares are VW rear fenders that have been profiled and shaped to fit the square fenders and then welded onto them.

This is how it came to me and that exhaust is one of the worst that is made for them.
I have a 2332 that is in need of an aftermarket engine case and that will power this little beastie.
Four times the stock power should make it loads of fun.

I'm quite sure that I am the only one staying on topic here, OP wanted something like a CR-V with a bed, is that not a Honda Ridgeline? Well, maybe more like an Odyssey minivan with a bed, close enough.

I'd never buy a Ridgeline, although they are an admittedly excellent vehicle. Too fragile for me. I like lockers, towing, obscene curb weight and MPGs, metal bumpers and ground clearance without having to worry about some plastic doo-dad falling off. Jeez, and in the Ridgeline the engine is mounted the wrong way, like every other Honda that isn't an S2000.

Those Coronas were great cars. A friend had a two door he named "Grunt". The was pretty "spicy", too. Fun car to drive.

We had the Toyota and a '64 Econoline van. For some reason dad decided I would learn to drive the van w/3-on the tree. I drove The HELL out of both of them. I never broke anything though. Except, I remember dad telling me years later he thought it strange that the differential had water and rust all in it. I remembered I had skipped school and went driving around up on the "bench", a Salt Lake Valley thing. And got it stuck in a creek bed. I'm sure he knew it was something I did. He weren't no dummy.

HAHAHAHA!!! I love Detroits, too. They can be a handful in a short wheel base rig, especially if it has a bit of play in the steering. However, having one in my 69 Bronco let me continue to commute with it while I searched for those hard to come by axles. These days, we just buy new, but i the mid 80's there wasn't any new axle available...
When given the choice, I will always put a Detroit Locker in the back of my truck and street cars. I don't recommend them to many people, though, because a lot of people do not like their characteristics. Me? I like sh!t to work. Always.

I hear you my man! I put a Detroit TruTrac in my 2007 Titan.....wild ride in slippery conditions with all that V8 torque! Much better off-road though.

On my new Titan, I got the Pro-4x which has an electric actuated Dana locker OEM. No more inadvertent sideways action for me
