I am soon going to be going on a 5 day 45 mile backpacking trip through the Eagle Cap/ Wallowa national forest area. As a Wa resident and a Wa st CPL holder does anyone know what my options are? CC? OC? Not at all? Thanks!
I could be wrong but in WA I think you can CC without a permit while doing "lawful outdoor activities" and traveling to and from. No such exemtion in OR?
Here are the OR laws, ORS Chapter 166 - Offenses Against Public Order; Firearms and Other Weapons; Racketeering - 2011 Oregon Revised Statutes
I found it but I guess that it only applies to licenced hunters and fisherman. I hear Ice lake has good fishing
OR is a little different then here in WA. They exempt outdoor activities as strictly limited to licensed hunting and fishing. If you plan to fish on your hike, and have an Oregon fishing license, then yes, you can CC if you wish. Personally, when I distance hike I OC, with a shoulder holster. I don't like shoulder hosters, I very much prefer to open carry on my hip, and if it is a day hike that is what I do, but with a full pack, that is next to impossible with the pack's hip belt. (at least with the packs I own) You will probably have to figure how to OC...Oh, another quirk in OR law....read ORS 166.250(3) a pistol in a BELT holster on you HIP is not concealed and subject to the prohibitions in .250.
Yeah, I am real excited to get ouf the city for awhile. Ive never been but I hear its magnificent. Thanks Hermannr
Magnificent is an understatement. My hikes started out of the Lostine River valley. Plan on a LOT of switchbacks!!!!
I just got back from my trip early this morning. This area has some of the most beautiful country I have ever seen. I will say this though. The great weather brought out tons of people, (mostly the Birkinstock type and by tons I mean like thirty over five days) and even though campsites were still plentiful maybe next year I will go a week or two later. It was kinda funny though that I got more wierd looks OC'ing at 8600 feet in the middle of the "wilderness" than OC'ing at the supermarket in Spokane.
