This looks like a nice Tactical Rifle, which uses 10 round steel mags. Stainless steel action and barrel, with a nice laminate stock. The Government is buying the rifles for its Arctic Rangers, who have been using old Lee-Enfield carbines since they were formed.

here is the news story all about this purchase:

Holy hell! Am I reading this part correctly?

"At first, the Rangers will start with 125 Finnish-made guns valued at C$1.5 million ($1.2 million) which will be issued out to select reservists as a field trial.'

$9600 US per rifle? Government contracting at its finest?

I saw an interesting segment on Fox. Russia is building up it's Arctic military forces and has eight or ten battalions in the Arctic while the United States has two and is reducing those. Russia had war games in the Arctic with 40,ooo troops, heavy armor and simulated nuclear warfare. It's no wonder Canada is at least modernizing it's small arms.
