I am not too familiar with really any of these laws, so trying to get any information I can. My partner's (unmarried) grandmother is wishing to gift me some of her dead husbands older rifles/shotguns, I am not too sure on specifics. I planned on going down to CA at some point and picking them up and driving them back up, though through some basic research I don't believe that to be possible. Would I have to ship to an FFL here in OR?

While I understand the desire and need to be legal...
Don't ask , don't tell works for many things.

In any event...
If I wanted to obey all the BS laws and such...
Going through an FFL is something that needs to be done.
I would ask your local FFL that you are wanting to use for what he needs to have happen

Have granny write up a note stating she's giving them to granddaughter and in Oregon at least it'd be kosher I believe.

You can only gift guns to immediate family members when both live in Oregon. Out of state gifts require an FFL.

Yup I agree just go get them

As much as I hate to admit it, Slick Willy did have some good tag lines that can stand the test of time.

Yep.... "it depends on what the meaning of 'is' is".....

It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is. If the—if he—if 'is' means is and never has been, that is not—that is one thing. If it means there is none, that was a completely true statement. … Now, if someone had asked me on that day, are you having any kind of sexual relations with Ms. Lewinsky, that is, asked me a question in the present tense, I would have said no. And it would have been completely true.

Some laws are too extreme to obey. For example, used to be in Portland (probably still is) that cutting a branch off a tree in excess of 1/4 inch diameter required a permit. How many Portlanders do you think obey that law? Pretty close to zero I'd guess. So what am I saying? Follow the practical consensus of those commenting in response to your question. Don't worry, be happy.
