Guy's im curious since im fairly new to the area, (vancouver) what differences in gun laws if any are between these two states? can i drive to oregon and buy a gun? i wouldnt think so but i see alot of gun for sale ads on this board from both OR and WA. areas, does this apply to just gun stores or private transfers as well? just like some clarity so i dont waste any time looking at ads for firearms located on OR side of border.

You buy buy an take home a rifle or shotgun in Oregon while living in Washington and vis versa.
However, pistol if purchased in the state you don't reside in will need to be transferred from the FFL you purchased it from to an FFL in Washington.

Other than that the same universal background check runs apply in both states and all else is the same

Let's say you go buy a long gun in Washington (or Idaho, or anywhere that's not Oregon). You'll be in that state's background check database, but not Oregon's, correct? Oregon will have no idea that you purchased said gun, and if they end up banning evil black rifles, they wouldn't know that you had it, correct?

From what iv read, the background check only lasts 7 days. There is nothing tying you to the long gun other than the form 4473 which stays with the FFL until they shut down or 20 years.

Haha, yeah, right, like they actually get rid of it after 7 days. That bubblegum is there forever.

There is no firearm specific data recorded with a long gun purchase at the national level, other than long gun, handgun, other... No make, model, serial number. The state of WA has a pistol transfer application which does have data, but that is destroyed by law, as is the record of the background check when conducted by the local law enforcement.

Long guns can be purchased across state lines with the national background check conducted at that dealer. Handguns, suppressors, SBR's and AR lower must be delivered by a dealer in your state of residence. WA requires 90 days of residency to qualify as a resident. You can buy in Oregon, but it will be shipped to

You cannot buy private party (by law in OR & WA) without a background check at a local dealer.

Sales taxes are collected on commercial sales, not private party transfers. Same as online purchases shipped in. Swing by our shop and we can show you each record and how it works. SPorting Systems, 408 W 9th st, Vancouver, WA

Not necessarily. An FFL can send his 4473's to the ATF whenever he chooses. Kieth's Sporting Goods sent theirs in when they ran out of storage space.
