Contact your FFL to find out if they will take delivery from a private party and what is needed. Mine wants an invoice with all the particulars and a copy of the seller's ID.

It would be cheaper for your CA friend to ship it through the USPS using the FFL in CA because he can't get the cheaper postal rate.

Some FFL's will not accept a firearm from a non-FFL. Others may just require a copy of a drivers licence. I received a long gun transfer from a non FFL at Tigard Pawn 4 More. They required a color copy of both sides of the sellers drivers licence. I've had good service there.
