A painting by the artist Banksy that sold for 1.5 million dollars self-destructed immediately after it was sold as watching auction house patrons gasped. The frame secretly incorporated a shredder that the mischievous artist activated right after the gavel came down.

One art appraiser said that the work actually "may be worth more in its shredded state."
Worth more shredded? That is a modern art masterpiece, right there!

Crazy!
They are in negotiations with the auction house and the buyer on what to do about the now "destroyed" ( Or Not ) art!
Don't know if I would be super pizzed or not! The artist is well known for these types of pranks, so this might be a bonus to the buyer as part of the appeal of owning one of these pieces!

Banksy has every right to do whatever he wants with his art pieces, even after it got sold :) Hilariously, that comment on "it may be worth more in its present state"...maybe, if the frame is included...as that frame is probably another art masterpiece..after all, there's such a thing as performance art and art installation :D:p As a fellow artist, I do feel like this is a very good way of making sure the copyright stays with the work in its state. This way, commercialization cannot happen, unless it is in pieces.
