Collector value is relative to what?

I have probably a much older King air rifle. Yep, collectible, but still not worth much. If I wanted to polish it up, because I could, it'd be worth more to me than the little bit I could sell it for.
 
Man! You guys are harsh!

When I was a teenager, I refinished my J.C. Higgins .22 rifle.

In roughly 1962, my Dad bought it for me, and paid 5-bucks. Even today, it's not worth much, but it sure is gorgeous to me.

I'm glad nobody told me way back then what a piece of crap I had and I further lessened the value.😢
 
Man, he just ruined whatever collector value that thing had with all that bubba.
