Here is an answer to a common question on Powder Coating bullets. How many bullets can I powder coat with a pound of powder?

The usual answer is "lots and lots" of them, or thousands.

Today I cast a small pile of my two favorite pistol bullets. I inspected and counted 100 of each and scaled them on a powder scale. My most accurate scales won't do for 100 bullets but I put several at a time on the scale and wrote down and added up the numbers.

I then proceeded with my usual shake and bake method of coating.

I weighted them again and did the math.



9mm Luger (147 grain)

MP 358-147 BB NLG

Eastwood Signal Red

24,055 bullets per pound of powder.



45 ACP (230 grain)

MP 452-200 NLG

Eastwood Ford Light Blue

8,444 bullets per pound of powder.
