I'm sure there might be other threads about this topic but I couldn't find any.

I need your input guys on building a real competitive pistol (yet still affordable) for USPSA open division:

To keep things more concrete, let's assume you're willing to spend up to 2K to build this pistol. What gun would you buy and what will you add to it? I"m really considering doing this so please keep it real guys:)

For the Glock parts,

Build includes the following items:*
• Precision Barrel*
• Lone Wolf Slide*
• Lightning Strike Titanium Striker*
• Lightning Strike Titanium Safety Plunger*
• GSC Stainless Steel Guide Rod with 15lb spring*
• C-More STS Red Dot optic sight*

If you can't find a Glock 17L, you can also build up a Glock 34

That $2000 budget is a little tight for a full up open CZ with magazines.

It's doable with a Glock 17. I've been running a G17 shooting Major 9 for
about 7 years. KKM gunsmith fit barrel, melted in Docter sight, my own
titanium Comp. If I had it to do over, I would save myself a bunch of
headaches and contact these guys:
Look at the "Home built open gun kits" under SJC Components.

Another possible option is to buy a used gun built on a 2011 platform in 38
super. The super guns are sometimes pretty reasonable since major 9
came on the scene. I've seen some pretty nice ones with magazines
go for $1800-$2000.

M&P's and XD's. There have been a few people playing around with open guns on
those platforms. As far as I know, at this point it's all individual effort with no commercial
availability on parts and pieces yet. No reason why it wouldn't work, have at it if you want
to be a pioneer. You might check with Scott at Springer Precision in Bend about the XD. If
anybody would know about the feasability of building an open gun on the platform he's the guy.

You want a shiny new for real totally competitive USPSA open gun? Double your budget.
At least.;)

Do you think you could find a used gun for within your budget or are you set on building one? I know MikeB and JanH and TomA are shooting open glocks, but I also have seen them clearing jams.

Carver customs is another company that does custom glock open guns for under 2k. They claim to be able to shoot major9. I'd personally be a little leary of shooting major9 out of a polymer frame pistol. You can find a used 38 super for under 2k but once you start buying brass you'll probably want to re-barrel it to major9. Uspsa.com has a members classified section and gunbroker and guns America occasionally has them as well

Why would you be Leary of shooting major out of a glock?
There are probably more people shooting major out of a glock than cz just because it is a cheaper alternative. Go here for more info from people who shoot 9mm major from glocks.

Brian Enos's Forums... Maku mozo!

Don't let people who have never tried to hit major out of a built glock or there assumption deter/scare you.

In the end it goes by what gun feels best in your hand.
