Wise to just avoid the police or make it very brief and uneventful if you have to interact with them. Wouldn't have antagonized them like this kid did.

Simon99 and drew, I don't care what the kid said. Last I checked, there was some thing called Freedom of Speech in this country. I don't care if the kid called every single one of the officers every bad word possible. I don't care if he went as far as to insult their spouse, children, or parents with the most offensive words. I don't care if he even went as far as to insult the officers using racial slurs. This is one of the worst police brutality videos I have ever seen. I hope the kids parents law suit sucks out a world record dollar amount against the police department AND the City. I REALLY hope everyone of those officers involved lose their jobs and are charged criminally and have to spend some real time in the Pound Town resort and contract AIDS, Herpes, and Every other known STD that is from male on male sex. DID this post give you a real image on how much I disapprove of crap like this from police?

I hear you....
Yes, the video looks terrible. I understand your views on what the kid/did or did not say. The reality is though, from a legal point of view that a jury of your peers will consider, is - did you threaten/intimidate/escalate the situation? This can be considered assault.
Had the kid walked away on his merry way, he could have exercised his freedom of speech with some of his drunk or stoned buddies down at the bar. Instead, it appears in the video that he decided to cause some conflict with the police....which was a very bad idea.
People that are grossly intoxicated or under the influence of drugs sometimes make poor judgment calls, and I'd say this kid made a huge one that evening based on the video footage.

I completely understand what you are stating and agree, booze probably was a factor. Whatever the end results are, I do also hope this kid learns a valuable lesson in common sense and learns that sometimes a person needs to bite their tongue and use his head before something like this occurs. It is sad that it seems like children these days are not taught and express being a polite and well behaved person. Parenting can be blamed or a number of other things, but it just seems teens and young adults these days are on the wrong track as far as politeness.

When you hire on as a LEO you should leave your ego at the door. It doesn't matter what someone calls you or your parents. You're not being paid to defend your own image. You're being paid to keep the peace. Your personal feelings should NEVER come into it. A LEO has no right to lose his temper...ever.

I predict that the K-9 cop will someday be found laying by the side of the road. There was a cop in Hawaii in the 70's who was well known for beating drunks with a 5 cell flashlight. They eventually found his lifeless corpse laying in the road next to his vehicle. What goes around comes around.

These guys are no different from the bikers in NY pulling the guy from the SUV. You mean to say that none of those cops were man enough to subdue that drunk kid by themselves?
And the 5 of them needed to have a dog help?
Sounds like they need to go back to the gym.
But the part that sickens me is how the PD and the city back these thugs up.Oh yeah, the union will get any conviction overruled anyway

Burn 'em

Since the kid was unarmed, there Was no excuse for this. The cops could have just walked away...... So the kids a loud mouth. Heck, our children mouth off to us and we can't give them a spanking but 5 heavily armed cops can beat the bejesus out of a mouthy punk?

Sorry, they are bullies and deserve to lose their badges or 3 months suspension without pay, jail, whatever, because they deserve to be punished. If they don't get properly reprimanded then they should be civilly used and the kid will end up owning his own bubble gumming casino!

Brutus out

Based on the video and the interview with the victim and his parents, I have to agree that the city better get out their checkbook and settle ASAP. There is no justification for the baton beating or the dog. It was all pure payback for a stupid drunk kid mouthing off to some cops who should have been mature enough to handle the situation without violence. If the kid is a jerk, cite him for minor in possession/consumption, disturbing the peace, drunk and disorderly or whatever. But to go to town on him the way they did was judge, jury and almost executioner. And the interview with the chief, what a load of bs. Why didn't he come right out and say: "Everything that can be done to cover up the despicable behavior of the officers involved is being done. We will close ranks and make every effort to protect the guilty parties since they wear our colors". He probably is one of the those cops in favor of disarming citizens, too. Next he will also want all surveillance cameras to be under police control, since the public "doesn't need to see everything that goes on".

I am not shocked by this, I really don't have any compassion for a 20 year old man, who get's kicked out of a casino for being under age, and then is questioned, and then let go by the cops.

/////Let's just stop right there, most guys, including me at that age, would thank their lucky stars that there are not tickets, fines, being arrested, getting your a$$ kicked by the cops, then getting your a$$ kicked a couple more times in the tank, because you are a mouthy little punk, and the cops know just where to put you for the night, court appearances and diversion classes involved. Then, I would have told my friends that they were cool cops, for letting me go, I would have said this because I would have been polite and then GTFO of Dodge.////

Lipping off to the cops, is a very, very stupid thing to do. From a legal standpoint, he could have said some stupid shizzle that merited a beat down, and arrest. Maybe instead of mommy and daddy telling little Connor, he is special, they should have taught him some manners. Stupid hurts, and good manners don't cost you anything.

I stopped being shocked by videos like this a few years back.

What bothers me now is that I helped create this environment. I voted for the guys who were going to be tough on crime, and make the criminals pay. They in turn militarized the police and they became the trigger happy thugs we see in this video and many others.

So if someone Cusses me,out berates me, calls me every name in the book, shakes his finger at me. That gives me the right to call up four friend and beat the crap out of him because he assaulted me verbally ? no! I don't think so. Or that's like someone gets in a fender bender Because some guy ran a red light so the guy that got hit gets out of his this car and shoots another guy for assaulting him with his vehicle. I don't see the logic. In my opinion those cops were way out of line.
