Yes sir. I read in my new NRA magazine about some of the UN treaties that have been signed, and that they are planning on signing in the future. Our 2nd amendment rights are under attack for sure. One thing about Bush was that he told the UN to stuff it when it came to violating our 2nd amendment. Now, Hillary is telling them that we are ready to take things in a different direction with the backing of Obama. I am not happy about that.

It is now time for change.

My 65 year old, 60's Flower Child Liberal sister called Brown an inexperienced "boob", to which I responded,

I seem to recall another fellow, also still married to his first wife and with two beautiful daughters, who was also a State Senator, and who also went on from there to become a US Senator.

That fellow now happens to be President of the United States.

Sure, Obama doesn't have Brown's 30 years in military service, rank as a Lieutenant Colonel as a JAG in the Massachusetts National Guard, and an Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service after 9/11. He also didn't have to win either of his senate seats in areas in which his political party was deeply, deeply in the minority. Nor did his opponent in either of those races have to overcome a last-minute Air Force One visit from the opponent party's sitting President, and a past President, campaigning against him.

On the other hand, in total fairness, Brown was never a "community activist":D.

Nevertheless, the parallels are erie.

I think its fair to say that based on the folks getting in the way of honest debate these days in Washington DC... both sides should be able to agree that "experience" in government may no longer be a good thing. :)

Any Dem could reply that Martha Coakley was a terrible candidate and that even if this is a referendum on the current health-care debate, Obama hasn't had any time to work through the terrible situation he was handed by GW.

But this a board about firearms, so perhaps that political debate can occur elsewhere.
:)

You can stop Blaming Bush!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Damn it's has been Obama's ball for a year and it's time to say for Obama this is my crap now. Everybody else should stop looking for a scapegoat. You don't want me to list everything Obama has done. Do you? And it had nothing to do with Bush.

All this Senate stuff has got me thinking about the 17th amendment.

If I were to redo the 17th amendment, I would remove the popular election section, and restore the senators being selected by the state legislatures. Also, I would require that the two senators selected would be of opposing political viewpoints, ensuring hearty debate and middle ground legislation.

Also, I would remove from the senate the ability to craft legislation. They can only revise legislation sent from the house, vote, and then send it back to the house for a vote, where the house does not get to revise the revised bill.

just a thought.

So you are saying that turning around an economy should take a year or less...?

And let me guess.... you didn't like the stimulus.

That is why we have an area called ( OFF TOPIC)

But in my oppion this has a lot to do about our firearms, because Martha Coakley supported gun control beyond that for criminals and this BS health care reform..

I will be having fun watching the Dems squirm in thier seats ...

I believe this is just the begining and we will be taking back the congress from any politician that does not stand WITH the American people. This is a great victory. Many more to come!

We will be taking back congress?
And you're suggesting that this new Born Again Republican congress will not be selling us out to whoever offers them a nickle?

Amazing, this must be the fabled age of Aquarius!

Exactly. That is my fear.

Hopefully this time around (as opposed to 1994) the Reps get the message and know that their backers are enraged and engaged. If not, they will lose again and be out just like McCain was ignored.

This is good news! Hopefully the people are catching on and will demand a return to the constitution and freedom and an end to the bailouts for the banking cartel and an end of the out of control spending.

Now hopefully the Republicans will have the guts to filibuster any legislation that will compromise our freedoms. I am somewhat skeptical though, since there is plenty of corruption on both sides of the aisle and many Republicans who voted for all the bailouts and so-called "stimulus package" for politically connected special interests.

:s0133:

Exactly. The pressure NEEDS to be maintained on Brown that the PEOPLE voted him in, and he is not betrothed to special interests like big business (illegal immigration) or labor (SEIU,AFLCIO,pigs) and that when closed door negotiations occur on legislation that will effect US..........we WILL be angry and we WILL act. That being said, I know groups like the NRA could be construed as special interest, so I guess comes the next question.....we rely on groups like the NRA to help us defend our rights....if you ALSO call on politicians NOT to cater to special interests, how do we get around that fact? One thing I CAN say about that special interest, though, is that the NRA's main goal is lobbying people in power to follow the Constitution, which is black and white, and shouldnt be ignored or worked around-so i guess they are a bit different in that respect to the big corporate lobby and labor union thugs. Any thoughts on that?

I've been watching this all day, the fact that MA had no exit polls made for quite the nail-biter! I'm very happy Brown won.

Regarding this thread, I appreciate everyone keeping it gun-related and light on the back and forth politics. As long as it continues this way I see no reason to close it ;)

I definitely consider this election event to be firearms-related. Back in February Eric Holder (Obama's Attorney General) stated an intent to bring back the so-called Assault Weapon's Ban, repeal the amendment that prevents gunmakers from being sued, and other anti-gun measures (incidentally that was the very day my family added 8 members to the roles of the NRA), not to mention all the UN moves to regulate 'small arms' via treaty.
So, it's not overstating things to say that ANYTHING that slows down the march towards global socialism is a positive for lawful gunowners.

The 17th Amendment will be the downfall of this Republic. The original framers of our Constitution believed that a small federal government, with limited powers, would ensure and protect our individual and our individual states' rights. The 17th Amendment destroyed this.

The House is supposed to represent the individual citizen and their rights. The number of representatives from each state is adjusted by its population.

The Senate is supposed to represent the individual states and their rights. The governments of the states were to select them to ensure that the states concerns were represented at the Federal level.

The 17th Amendment diluted the states power at the Federal level and setup the eventual takeover of our country by the Federal Government.

I live in Washington, two Senators represent me; because of the 17th Amendment, they do not represent Washington State. I elect them. IF I am unhappy with what either of them is doing there is little I can do, there are six million residents in this state. However, I have two representatives and one senator at the state capitol. They represent about 250,000 people. Because of the much smaller pond, I am a much bigger fish and can have more impact on what goes on in the senate Washington DC.

If (aint going to happen :() we were to repeal this amendment, the Federal Government would shrink (almost overnight :D) to its intended role in our lives.

Well, I assume that the anti-gunners aren't running around today saying "WE WON!"

I know I slept a little better last night. I can't wait for November, but Obama has already lost his clout. The Emperor has no clothes. :)

It could be better in a year but it is getting worse. How many jobs were saved this month. 685,999 sounds good. Plus I don't agree with the stimulis. What has it done? Where is it going? I can show you some places it is going.
If you agree with that more power to you. But it does nothing for me and I have not seen anything that is helpful.
