the Daily Mail isn't a "leftist rag", it's about as right wing and xenophobic as a tabloid can be- it's all pointing fingers at Johnny Foreigner with his weird customs, odd languages and worrisome spicy food .It's handy clickbait distraction from the generally crappy state of things.
I stand corrected.

I don't read the Daily Mail, but every article of theirs that I have read is Anti-American, so I assumed they were leftist. Now I see they are just snobs being snobby or whatever the British word is for that.

I worry about what I read is going on in London. As well as other parts of Europe and Canada too. We have our own problems, but I'm glad that I live here!!!

I think a lot of British citizens would love to own guns but Brits are ruled, not governed
I am not certain based on how Britons tend to vote and what they vote for. Both parties in the UK the Conservative party and Labour party both have been given socialist mandates over the years . It is noteworthy that the very restrictive gun control the UK has which was the result of the Dunblain shooting was the product of the Conservative party who was in control at the time , the Labour party implemented it when they came to power.

Surely sounds to me like MOST brits want gun control , keep in mind Europeans politically are nothing like Americans and conservative doesn't mean the same thing here that it does there.

I have never been to Great Britain and my comment about what I think they would like is just my opinion of human nature. Once people learn to have safe fun with guns then most people in my experiences would like to own one.

It looks like the elite ruling class doesn't trust their subjects to own firearms in Britian and thats too bad.

They should be happy we have guns just in case they need to borrow some again and again. Happily one of mine still has the proof marks from when it was loaned to the Britts in WWII. :)

If I remember correctly about wwI and wwii, the dash to get guns was for defense of the British.

But let's not forget that if u go back far enough, the first move of the revolutionary war was to try to take the arms of the American militia, which lead to the second amendment (at least in part).
Remember The American Committee for Defense of British Homes? Happened in 1940.

You get what you vote for.

Looking at history from my point of view and folks may not share that view, Great Britians elite have armed the population against foreign aggression to save the government and monarchy. Yet when it comes to arms for the people to protect themselves the Brits are just subjects of the crown. Brits may even agree with being unarmed but they have no choice if they didnt agree.

I am thankful I live in America now.

Maybe we should tell our Brit cousins how much ammunition is out there........then stand back and watch their heads explode.....💥

In fairness we should be thankful to the Brits.
The technology transfers we received in the WWll lend lease program saved many American lives. As one example we built our radar technology on earlier Brit research.....and in the late 18th century they provided the inspiration for the creation of the USA.

Maybe we should do something nice for them......like maybe quietly take care of Mehgan and Harry...

Yep and if the Britts knew there are 5 cities in America that require gun ownership they would faint straight away 😂

Between 2017 and 2020 nearly 900 illegal weapons seized in Britain originated in the U.S.
OK - lets start by qualifying this statement. By 'Originated in the U.S.' does he mean made or produced in the U.S. ? If so then of course they 'Originated' in the U.S.

OR - as in 'Originated' does he mean with regard to his first statement, 'British police report that a growing number of firearms bought legally in U.S. gun shops are finding their way illegally to the UK' .

I know it's a lot to ask but I wish people would be more clear with what they are trying to say - whether reporters in news articles or otherwise.

And what is the point to this anyway? Is he trying to correlate the large number of guns in the U.S. as primary reason so many guns 'are finding their way illegally to the UK' ? What about all the other countries that may have much easier methods and avenues to get guns into the UK ?

and officials fear that gangs can increasingly turn from knives to guns.
Hmm, He almost makes it sound like knives are an 'accepted' weapon to use.

The British response is traditionally to sigh in weary bewilderment
Kind of a broad brush statement. I am quite sure there are a LOT of Brits who have very pro-gun attitudes and opinions and are NOT 'Sighing in weary bewilderment'.

About half the displays have not a single revolver. And even those that have revolvers have only a handful or less!. These people need more guns!

I finally read the Comments section... as is usually the case with these sorts of tabloid stories, waaay more entertaining than the commercial copy.

A bunch of uppity British snark and somewhat excusable ignorance of the law, 2A, etc. A smattering of US support, a few who actually understand our current political climate and commiserate, lamenting their own political climate in the UK.
... and a WHOLE lotta stupid.

This was my favorite. It manages to encapsulate nannyism, condescension, ignorance, fearful risk-aversion, and cloying, breathless pearl-clutching all in a few short sentences;

"Only one problem, if someone breaks into your home. How do you know which bullets fit which gun. Oh dear. Just give the burglar the money"

I'm sure she's a perfectly lovely lady... probably goes shopping on Wednesday and has buttered scones for tea. But l ain't taking firearms, combat, or SD advice from my grammy either.

BTW, l don't know the actual sex of the commenter... I'm assuming female.
