14" is too close to 16" to make the stamp worthwhile to me.
True that. I was looking at buying the ap53 which is 8" and it would be about $2600 total to get it situated how I want. Just too much and 8" loses all the power of 5.56 making it more of a toy gun.

Bren 2 short stroke gas piston is a better option and can get at a more effective barrel length for $1100 less. Never shot the Bren though. I assume it's similar to the other ar-180 based guns like hk416, g36, scar, brn-180 etc but just a guess.

11" if you are going to SBR or run a brace. 14" if you are going to try to do a P&W.
The 11" is really well balanced and a lot of fun to shoot.

I have a 16" carbine, and I really love it, but it is a big girl.

I have shot the 11" and it feels like a 5.56 subgun. Really fun.

No experience with the hk16, but I had a BRN-180, and shot the Scar a few times. I kept the Bren 2. It is really smooth and soft shooting. the 16" has a heavy barrel, so it is a bit of a chonker. If I was to start over, I would probably SBR an 11".

100% the 11" if you are going to suppress. More compact, lighter weight. There is a company (forget the name off the top of my head, i can find it) that makes a Tailhook adaptor for the stock/brace, makes it very nice. Honestly the Bren 2 is a sleeper- it is one of my favorite rifles and doesnt get the credit it deserves out there! Battle proven currently in Ukraine. Honestly I like it better than some of my higher end ARs . . .

In my opinion 5.56 is really only accurate with a longer barrel 16" and above. For a SBR I prefer .300 blk and I'm open to the possibility of the new Hornady .338

The only 5.56 gun I have now is a PWS MK111. I find the 11" barrel a good compromise between velocity and portability. It's just a nice, useable size that even with a suppressor, doesn't get in the way.

The Bren looks pretty neat though. If I were looking for such a thing, that would be near the top of the list. I kinda dig "non-standard" platforms though. AR's are boring.

Garandthumb did a good review of it. He is very critical when is comes to assault rifles which is good.

Kinda thinking of getting a suppressor plus bren2 for less than the cost of the ap53 (configured how I want it I mean). As a useful tool the Bren 2 blows away the ap53. No comparison really. Cool factor is only advantage of ap53 but really high cost. Just ordered the suppressor. Now I'm a bit torn between Stribog 10mm @ $1075 and Bren 2 11" at $1466. Hmmm…

Anyway here is the garandthumb review if anyone is interested in the Bren 2. Sounds like it's being used heavily in Ukraine now.

You are probably thinking of the Haga Defense adapters.

What suppressor did you order? That would be a tough call on which one to get- suppose it would depend upon what you currently have and what hole looking to fill. The Stribog is also totally underrated- I would take it over many PCCs. I ended up selling mine after I got an Sig MPX and B&TAPC9, but both of those are substantially higher cost, and it held its weight to them. Sold it to a close buddy of mine who was really wanting one but couldnt afford new, so cut him a really good deal. Of the two, the Bren 2 IMO is the better gun though by far- is truely is really good, and the ability to adjust the gas, and mod the gas for suppressor use is icing on the cake. Yeah there is a reason it is a primary gun now in Ukraine- has been very successful there. They are supposed to be coming out with a Bren 3, but it is quite a ways out, I wouldn't wait for it . . .

Yes - there you go, that is the company and what i have on mine. When i got mine a few months ago, they werent making them anymore, so had to get it secondhand from reddit, but worth it . . .

I would like to hear more on your thoughts as to why you think 5.56 is only accurate out of a 16" or longer barrel. I would strongly disagree and frequently run my 12.7" SBR'd LWRC out to 700M with ease and accuracy.

Went with ventum 7.62. Need flow through for g3k and ptr 51. Talked to ptr and they said vent 1 minimum for .308 was 14" so that was a no go. I'm also worried about those micro pores in the foam clogging up over time and reducing effectiveness. Since you have to use soak cleaning I could see it happening. And it's not something we would know about until people get 7000 rounds or more on their cans.

Could have just as easily got the inconel version of b&t srbs. Woudl last forever. Still tempted to get one especially for their price without that titanium adapter (which I don't need). Have had good luck with the Huxwrx stuff and $669 price point was good for me.

I have an 11" Bren 1 SBR and it is an awesome size but a heavy pig compared to the Bren 2. I also have a 16" Bren 2 as I didn't want to go the SBR route. The 16" just has an LPVO on it currently but final configuration will either be an HB Industries full length handguard to hide that long skinny barrel or the more likely route is a Griffin Armament dual lok PSR as the end of the over barrel suppressor would come to just in front of the factory handguard. Also planning to add the KNS adjustable gas block to the 16".

The Bren 2 is an excellent platform and flies under the radar. I really enjoy both of mine but expect the 16" will start to see the majority of the trigger time. I would say your consideration should be between the 11" and 16". If I was only going to own one I would choose a 11" Bren 2 and SBR it.

Nice!! I had not heard about a 14" length restriction on the Vent 1- that sucks!! I had planned on getting that one for my new Spear, which is the military length 13 inch barrel. Dambit. Agreed that the Ventum is probably the safer bet even if a little louder. My next can was going to be either the Vent 1 or Velos 762, so that will have to make me do some more figuring out of things . . . I did just watch Silencer Syndicate's video yesterday on night muzzle flash, but if you arent going to be shooting night combat, probably doesnt matter as much I suppose ;-)

Good info thx. From what I gather it sounds like the Bren 2 comes ready to accept a AR buffer tube in the back. That woudl be easy to put on stock or brace. Freedom munitions had these Tailhook brace and tube combos for $50 a while back so I have one that could be used on it. They are a bit thicker than ideal though.
They have a 8" with collapsible stock available but has a different upper (or maybe lower) to accommodate it. That woudl be ideal I think. Neolithic (sp?) also makes a 3d printed collapsible stock for the Bren 2 that uses standard upper/lower.

Here's the 8" with integrated stock. Don't think it's available in USA.

Yea any of the Ti ones are going to have that I suppose. I assume it gets better over time though but I don't know.

Fwiw 13" is probably fine for the vent 1. The guy I talked to said "I could get away with it" for the g3k which is 12.5" (but I need for 8.5" also). I woudl email them and ask. I bet he will say it's ok.

If I were to change from the factory stock on my 16" it would probably be to go to a Haga Defense adapter with B&T MBT stock:

I like that b&t one. I like factory stock one better though. Actually like the g36 one a lot despite not being adjustable. The collapsing one they have on 8" special version woudl be ideal for me but can't do it on reg bren 2 :(
