And, of course, CNN's main page this morning trumpets how "70% of cartel guns are from the USA!" and how we must have more laws controlling them. Made me so angry.

Insert facepalm picture of your choice.

"More than 70% of 29,284 firearms submitted to the U.S. Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for tracing by the Mexican government during 2009 and 2010 originated in the United States, according to the report."

Aren't statistics fun? So what is the total number of arms seized by the Mexican gov? Not just the ones they sent to the ATF for tracing... CNN ignores that, just as the NBC report did a couple of years ago.

So under 16% came from the U.S. (who knows how many of those were supplied by our gov't to Mexico). But yea, 70% sounds more impressive to the folks that want to take a white out pen to our Bill of Rights.

Another do-nothing congressional hearing that serves only to make a public spectacle and generate campaign contributions for the participants. :::yawn::: Your tax dollars at work.

BTW, citing blog entries on examiner.com as "articles" is like citing the National Enquirer as "news".

I agree with your belief that nothing will come of this - except the possible sacrafice of a few mid-grade morons. Anyone of any note will be covered for or mildly slapped on the wrist.

I strongly disagree with your opinion on blogs. The pedigreed news agencies are all bought and paid for - you will see nothing but fluff and lies from them. Independent citizen journalists and alternate news are the only possible source of the truth for real issues anymore.

Hmmm.
Well, that guy Dave links his own articles as a reference guide to readers.
I also link to other stuff as well.

For those who think this is a boring subject — probably because they voted for Obama and see this as a partisan issue — we're talking about a botched ATF operation (you know who they are, don't you?) that has put thousands of guns into illegal circulation, including a couple that were found at the murder scene of a Border Patrol agent. That man's mother and sister were on one of the panels during today's hearing.

Chris has it right. Cummings is trying to politicize this thing and twist the public's perception that this was an ATF and DoJ foul-up of monumental proportions.

Gunrunner: ATF Director Melson ‘very much in the weeds'

Kenneth Melson, the acting director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was "very much in the weeds" on the way his subordinates conducted Operation Fast and Furious, to the point that he allegedly could watch suspected illegal gun transactions on a live feed to his office.
