"Inactive project." Gomer Pyle might've said, "Surprise, surprise, surprise."

On the other hand, one of the virtues of this weapon when it was first made was easy mass production. I guess some things that were common enough in 1944, like forged parts (bolt, etc.) are no longer that easy or cheap to do (modern repro bolt from Germany, $570).

As my little grand niece might say, "Maybe wayter."

In the late '80's when I was waiting on the tax stamp for a machine gun, I helped the SOT when he was showing machine guns to collectors by keeping the mags loaded. This way I got to shoot mine plus a lot of others. One was the STG-44. It was a million kinds of cool and a real privilege to shoot.

That one was only axed when the AP5 came out at same price point they would've been at
Incorrect. Years in development and final edition ready to release at 2018 shot show, then 2019, 2020, 2021 etc. it became a running joke. You can't blame it on ap5 which for the first year was priced at $2499. PTR already existed prior to that for quite a while at $1599-1699 as I recall. Also POF and zenith (MKE before they moved to century for importing) Ap5 gradually went to $2199 then $1799, the. $1599, then finally $1200ish. But that was much more recently.

The company that over promises and sometimes delivers failed to deliver. But hey, they produced a 5.7 pistol nobody asked for, so... that was neat.

Looks like shot show 2020 was last time ever featured. 2021 was canceled, 2022 they were onto JaKL and AK variants + daggers. 2021 price went to $1600. 2022 AP5s were at $1200-1300.
If PTR was already $1600 and AP5s were decreasing it doesn't seem unreasonable or out of line with their own comments on why they shelved it.

It was four years it was promised and never anything but fake hype. Just because they moved on to Ak variants or whatever doesn't mean they didn't promise it and never brought it to market many years in a row. They couldn't make it work and if they blamed it on being a victim to other guns like or pyr that did work well that's them being dumbasses. Does not mean AP5 caused them to not bring it to market. Not at all.

The final nail in the coffin for the PSA STG was probably that D-K Production has hit the market with an exact clone of the Stg-44 (from what I understand, they've already been shipping). The D-K product is a whopping $6000, but that's still a fraction of the cost of an original and it's pretty much a 1:1 perfect clone (minus full auto).

The PSA was a multi caliber neither fish nor fowl proposition: still weighed 11 pounds and too clunky/dated to compete with AR's or AK's, but too much of a deviation from the original design to appease purists/collectors… the only thing it had going for it was that there was no other choice. Now that there is another choice, and many of the purists are willing to pay more, there wasn't enough of a market left.
