I've been wondering about the gun owning community for some time. So I decided to jump in headfirst to see what it was all about, and so far I'm pretty happy & impressed. I picked up a H&K P30 (only regular size gun that felt right and had controls I could access with my left hand), learned how to operate it without owning a single round of live ammunition, then took the NRA FIRST class and fired my first rounds through it. Joined the NRA & Douglas Ridge Rifle Club, which I'm extremely happy with. Still learning to get over the jumpiness of hearing someone next to me fire a gun, keeping my calm and hitting the target 80% of the time, etc. I'm not interested in hunting or home defense, but I want to learn to shoot very well and maybe get into competitive target shooting. Here to offer advice on my experiences and get good advice on shooting/gear/etc. Thanks!
I"d say you started out the right way on all counts. Welcome to a very friendly forum, and to 'the gun culture'. You are not alone,I"m a plinker and target shooter, always have been. Competition shooting is a lot of fun,and you'll find that most groups don't care how fast or how good you are, they DO care how safe you are,so enjoy. Now buy some more guns !!
Welcome to the forum! Get some good ear protection and try to move down a couple of lanes from the larger cal.
welcome to the forum HK-i'm sure you will enjoy yourself here--as for the new gun owner - hk p30 - nice choice ! the 9 mm will do you a good turn, and the ammo is almost always around, and very reasonable--oh its nice to have the larger cals. but the ammo at a plinken stage gets a little heavy in cost.its kinda like buying big fancy wheels for your truck--always check to see how much the tires are first--if the gun turns into a home defense weapon : just plan on emptying the clip !! steven
Welcome to NWFA! There are lots of people with tons of knowledge, so if you have any questions, just ask!
Welcome! I am new as an owner, myself, but I have noticed that taking a step into as many shooting styles and contexts will enhance whatever one is your focus. Self defense fir example lends extremely well to target shooting and stress under fire, you gain a natural and practical handedness for your firearm, very useful at the range. Have fun, stay safe
Another thread resurrection. I started with a S&W Sigma. While it actually was a decent gun for the money that salesman really did me a disservice. But in the long run it sent me in search of the holy grail of the perfect pistol. 10 or 12 pistols later I still haven't found it. Hasn't stopped me from looking. While I don't have all 12 now (or do I) and do have a few polymer pistols, only metal hammered fired pistols really interest me these days. I love CZ but even the CZ-10, meh. By the way, welcome.
