Is anyone really surprised by the knowledge imparted there?

I'm not,... At all.

The part about the restart, post 9/11, is enlightening, but I thought everyone knew what we were facing in the event the government turned to self-preservation uber-alles.

Seems like contradiction in methodology: lines of succession and support of the body politick, yet historically erroneous political weakening of borders/language/culture that would in itself tend to perpetrate that national interest.
