The 700s are relying on old reputation to stay alive. Remington puts out some really hit or miss firearms these days, and the attention to detail is gone.

I would go Savage on a budget, or go Tikka if you you have some more money.

Savage's trigger is around 2lbs out of the box, and will be a 1moa gun with no modification.

Not on your list, but based on your needs:

    Ruger Gunsight Scout

    Already threaded
    Mag fed
GREAT shooter for less then 600yrd
    Adjustable LOP
    Scout or traditional scope mounts

    I love mine.

Took a new Savage fcp-sr, topped with a Vortex Viper HS 6-24X50, to the range today. Did a few barrel break in rounds (not as many as some suggest), then started shooting for groups at 100 yards. Sub-MOA from a front rest and bag rear at 100. I'm gonna like this gun...a lot.

Only drawback, those AICS metal mags are expensive. Being that it's a bolt gun, I won't need many.

Magpul showed off a more affordable Magpul ploymer version of the Acis mags at The Shot Show.

Hopefully, Magpul's polymer version will work better than the other polymer version out there.

I agree with what most have said, but I've ran with a Remington 700AAC-SD and I love it. Great accuracy, and my other buddies I go with are also getting great results with their rifles. Granted, the stock that it comes with is garbage, but the rifle is definitely a shooter.

The Tikka T3 Varmint in .308 would definitely be another viable option to strongly consider.

I'd slum a salvage any day based on what I've experienced. Great rifles.

The 700 is like a Chevy small block V8 in regards to available parts and accessories.. If it ain't quite right, there is all sorts of aftermarket parts available and, in my opinion, is a nicer looking rifle.
