I've been noticing this for quite a while but it was really apparent during the pre-black Friday sales; most of the time the in-store bulk boxes (100-300 rounds) are WAY more expense then buying multiple 50 round boxes (for handguns). I watched a salesman in Cabelas direct some folks who were obviously friends of his to a big box of .45ACP telling them what a great deal it was. He seemed well intended. I was standing right there looking at the same ammo and as polite as I could to not front him off I pointed out the cost per round compared to the 50 round boxes on sale (much cheaper).

See, bigger is not always better.

I've seen lots of 5.56 ammo this way as well.

I ALWAYS crunch the numbers for cost per round regardless of the box-size for that very reason. "Bulk boxes" are not always better.

It's killing me that I don't have the money to buy this, but FYI to anyone looking for a .308 AR complete upper with BGC - Alpha Shooting Sports has one for $499.95 for the basic model (options to upgrade). I bought an upper from these folks before and they do nice work:

Looking for a Ruger AR556 ON SALE locally (NE Oregon/SE Washington) for less than the going price of $599.

Its near Portland but MKtactical's email today says:

"Black Friday and Saturday only Deals
All firearms* in stock or ordered 15% over Dealer cost (2% cash** and check discount). Even lower prices on guns over $1000. "

Might want to have them quote you a price

Thanks, but I think the prices I am finding are already close to that margin. Online price + shipping + transfer fee = $589. I understand that about $100 of the price is for the Ruger name and lifetime customer service over some cheaper XYZ brand or garage built option, and I am ok with that.

Hopefully I can find one locally tomorrow or Saturday.
