bipod vs sandbags for precision shooting

I have a led sled. I use that for load development and to see what my rifle/handload is capable of. Im working on weening myself off the led sled for more practical applications.

I would use bags/sled for testing.

This is kind of close to what I use - except the rest is different, it is a flexible thing I can conform to what I need:




For technique/skill practice, I mostly shoot offhand.

I prefer fun-bags.

I like to bury the front of the stock into the fun-bags if I can and put some forward pressure into it to keep it steady.

for use in the field, hunting etc, rather than carry a bipod, i find a monopod (wood staff or a collapsable monopod) almost as good as a bipop and less stuff to carry. Method is to place one end of the monpod in the opposing front pocket of your jeans, cross over at an angle with the mopod and rest the rifle against the staff and secure with your forward support hand....works pretty good and is far better than freehand standing. ME getting up in age i like a staff when hiking anyway.

instead of a bipod or sandbags?

back in the day, I could shoot my Garand more accurate with a tight leather sling than I could off the sandbags
today I use bipod front and mono pod rear on my AR target rifle
my back spasms and throw off my aim with a tight sling in prone position today
