I'm relocating to Oregon, and I'm looking for good training opportunities in the state. I've done courses at Gunsite and Yavapai. I'm open to good instruction, but right now I'm particularly interested in two types of courses:

1. Moving through structure with a handgun

2. Treating gunshot wounds

If you can think of anything to fits the bill, I'd much appreciate it!

A class that combines the CQB handgun and gun shot wounds is Suarez

But you have to travel for that one. It would be worth traveling for.

If your coming from Az your not going to find as many training opportunities up here but heres what I know of around here.

CQB handgun while "moving". This school specializes in CQB handgun and carbine classes. Your always moving, never stopping. And its all FOF.

gun shot wounds:

John Mosby has Tactical Combat Casualty Care next week in our area. He adds classes to his schedule throughout the year. You will need to ask him if hes adding more medical classes.

Kerry Davis taught bullets and bandages 2 years ago at Douglas Rifle Ridge. This was really good. He shot up some pigs and we were taught how to pack real wounds. Might want to ask him next time hes coming through.

I cant vouch for these last 2 but I know they offer medical classes in our area.

I was in the infantry. Their individual firearms training was pretty bad or non existant. That sucks because there is alot of good individual firearms training open to the public but not the infantry.

Their team and squad training was really good though and that is pretty much all they focused on.

For individual handgun, they basically issue you a handgun and say your going to qualify with this now without any training on it. Good luck.

For individual rifle qual, they have the shooters use special positions for sitting, kneeling, standing, prone using special stretching and positional techniques. They also let you use sling techniques, shooting gloves, shooting jackets, eye patches, etc. You "game it" using techniques so unrealistic you might as well be shooting benchrest from a machine rest.

Thunder Ranch Home and Vehicle Defense with Trauma Block- HVD

Thunder Ranch. - Who wouldnt want to take a class here but the reality is your never going to. I would like to take a class here because its local but the class prices are insanely expensive compared to other big name schools like Tactical Response, Gunsite, Fronsight, Suarez, Magpul, Chris Costa, Travis Haley, etc. Then you have to buy special ammo. And the classes are sold out too far in advance for you to sign up in a reasonable time frame. You basically have to sign up a year in advance compared to the other schools 2 to 3 months.
