It is very much personal preference as there are tons of variables...body type, preferences, equipment, etc. What works great for me might not work at all for you.

As for pants, I wear 5.11 Stryke pants a lot. Yea, I know they're tacti-cool. But at 6'4", 200 lbs, with a 35" inseam, I have a HELL of a time finding pants that fit. If you name a brand, I've likely tried them. The 5.11's fit. And they have a very nice expandable waistband that is wonderfully convenient for IWB concealed carry. YMMV.

i'm an old fart, but i carry a shield. in the winter i wear bibs, shield in back pocket, no holster. in the summer, shorts and flipflops, suggestions?

Wrong…there are passive safeties on striker fired guns. I've just had cocked and locked safeties swipe off in my pocket and belt before, heard of a couple other having the same problem and swore off them.

Been carrying a 3" barreled 1911 in my front pocket for many years, cocked & locked-- sounds like you had a bad pocket holster

I think the belt and holster are the biggest contributors to comfortable carry.
