I've gotten the itch to learn how to build an AR15. Probably going to build a pistol as well. So, I'm looking for recomendations on a good book and/or guide for building an AR15.

    Thanks in advance.

If you are not building the upper (buying it complete) and just building the receiver I've learned everything from youtube and it is pretty easy. If you are assembling the upper then there is a little more to torquing the barrel but in general it is still not bad. Since the headspace is (usually) set by the barrel manufacturer already

Brownells tends to have pretty good build videos to get you started

AR 15.com forum has a ton of vids for building.
Or you tube. But you don't need much cause they're pretty easy to figure out.

You don't need a book. There are literally thousands of quality resources online to get info. All the above mentioned ones will work just fine.

If you like a book in your hand I used this one: THE AR-15 COMPLETE ASSEMBLY GUIDE by Walt Kuleck with Clint McKee. AR-15 Guide Vol. 2 The B&W photos were helpful. Also has parts lists and helpful tips. I got mine on sale like 18 bucks...retails $21.95

I also used youtube as well. I am pleased with the results.

Having the right tools is a big help.
Books and videos are great, but if you don't invest in a couple of specialized tools, a fun project can become less fun in a hurry.

Thanks all for the replies. Figured I'd start out with just a kit and go from there.

If you're near the Portland area, I have all the right tools and more then a few successful AR builds under my belt.
Let me know if you're interested in receiving some help.
    Cheers, Jeff
