A little off-topic, but I've been trying to find a location to do some coyote predation hunting. I used to have a few connections in eastern Oregon, but time moves on and they prefer not to have westsiders on their cattle lands.

Grant County also hired a "contractor" two years ago that took care of their problem, so in the immediate future that area is not available.

Man, if you were closer I'd say almost anywhere East of hwy 97 on the desert between highways 20 and 31.

I see yotes frequently in the area where I live between LaPine & Sunriver.

Whatever you're carrying when you cross paths with a coyote is the ideal coyote cartridge. That said I like the 22-250 and 243 Win.

People have said the 223 is a poodle shooter round and a Coyote is like a poodle so,,,

223 is your best all around choice.
Just make sure the twist is fast.
As in 1:8 so if you ever want to shoot heavies, it can stabilize them.
If you get something with something like 1:12, you'll be limited to 55 Gr.

Shot with several people who poked the yotes a time or two and both .223 and 22-250 are common favorites. I will say the 22-250 gives that extra bit of punch and less drop on the longer hits. If you are going to use the gun on other varmints like P-dogs or crows....then .223 is probably the better choice as it'll reduce costs overall when volume shooting and wear on barrel. Both have factory ammo support if you are not a re-loader which is a plus vs some of the other chamberings.
